"We were extremely impressed with our fencing day organised as part of a Pirate week. All pupils from Y2 to Y6 participated and felt excited and enthused. Some children found that they had a talent for fencing that they could not have discovered in any other way. The certificates, medals and trophy provided as part of the day enhanced the experience for the children with one little girl winning the best fencer trophy and getting a spontaneous cheer from the rest of the school!"
Liz McGowan, Dep. Head, St Frances, Gorton
"Thank you for your brilliant contribution to the creative curriculum – it has renewed the children’s enthusiasm for sport and setting and achieving goals."
Laura Hopkins, St Paul's Peel CE Primary
"What an invigorating session - it has been great to have such an engaging sport in school that allows both boys and girls to start on the same footing and succeed equally. It's been especially nice to see my girls doing so well."
Mrs Sue Robb, Y3 teacher, St Augustine’s primary
"This has been the best day of my life!"
Year 3 Boy, St Frances, Gorton
"My son had one of the best parties we've ever had. He and his friends had a fantastic time, were kept really busy and learnt about a sport that was new to them all. The costumed character "Mini" was a real hit and made the day. Thank you for a brilliant party.
Kathy Rogers, Bramhall
"I just wanted to say thank you for making my boy's 7th birthday party such a wonderful and unique experience. All of the children absolutely loved every minute of the action parked party, and I must say you kept them all very well disciplined!
Thank you so much for a simply wonderful party experience. He really has the fencing bug now - as do many of his friends!"
Kate Sweeney, Wigan
"This party is the best party we have ever had and been to and other parents have said the same. It was very memorable and my son loved it. Thank you very much!"
Sharon Sayer, Warrington
"Darren is a well qualified and extremely competent fencing coach and experienced primary school teacher, who uses these skills to good effect in providing fun, exciting fencing tuition for children, aged 6 upwards. He also has his own weekly fencing club for children to move up into once the school sessions are over, thus providing a sustainable talent pathway, leading to further NGB-approved Awards and competitions. His offering closely meets the aims of the 5-hour offer and SportUnlimited initiatives and I would not hesitate to recommend him to any School Sports Partnership thinking about introducing fencing in their family of schools.
Norman Randall, Director of Coach Education and Management & Co-ordinator, National Framework Working Group, England Fencing
"Fencing taster days have worked well in our schools as an alternative activity to inspire those pupils who aren’t interested in traditional sports. The instruction was excellent and the pupils learnt new skills whilst having fun. We are lucky to have a fencing club nearby which was promoted during the sessions; even without this it’s still a worthwhile day."
