It is no secret that the government is placing increased emphasis on teacher wellbeing, backed by hard scientific research and opinions from experts in the field such as Patrick Nash, quoted above. Added to this, the DFES is backing these findings with hard cash in the form of wellbeing funding to schools.
As part of your own school teacher well being programme, Balestra Sword Fencing can offer a tailored staff session for up to 30 participants that, as well as being a release from the stresses and strains of the school week, is also an excellent team bonding activity and a challenging shared learning experience that promotes positive values of good health, fitness and mutual respect.
A typical stand alone session involves a short warm-up activity followed by basic Sword Fencing tuition and actual fencing with a series of different partners. Our service has been used in several different ways to key into each school's individual wellbeing programme and here are some recent examples of our work:
