School testimonials

Here at Balestra Sword Fencing we are proud to say that we have introduced many, many children and staff members to sword fencing across the North West of England in areas such as Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Preston and Warrington to name but a few locations in which we have worked.

The varied demands and large amount of this work, coupled with our sword fencing coaching/experience and QTS teaching experience have enabled us to develop a product of such a high quality that we are inundated by testimonials from satisfied teachers, school staff, partnership development managers and coach educators which we would like to share with you.

We hope these comments will help you to decide why a session from Balestra Sword Fencing will benefit you and your school.

"Fencing taster days have worked well in our schools as an alternative activity to inspire those pupils who aren’t interested in traditional sports. The instruction was excellent and the pupils learnt new skills whilst having fun. We are lucky to have a fencing club nearby which was promoted during the sessions; even without this it’s still a worthwhile day."

Howard Shore, Partnership Development Manager, Salford South School Sports Partnership

"It was an amazing experience enjoyed by all pupils and staff. It was something completely brand new that none of us had ever tried before and it was pure fun. The teacher delivered the session to pupils and staff in a clear and fun way. We would definitely do it again.”

G Rocaforte Steedman, St Bonifaces

"What an invigorating session - it has been great to have such an engaging sport in school that allows both boys and girls to start on the same footing and succeed equally. It's been especially nice to see my girls doing so well."

S Robb, Y3 teacher, St Augustine’s

"Very impressed. It was clear that the children's confidence, hand/eye coordination and self reliance was increasing more and more as the session went on."

D Davey, Headmaster, Branwood School

PERSONAL, NON-COMPANY REFERENCE: Darren is a well qualified and extremely competent fencing coach and experienced primary school teacher, who uses these skills to good effect in providing fun, exciting fencing tuition for children, aged 6 upwards. In addition to this, he also has his own weekly fencing club for children to move up into once the school sessions are over, thus providing a sustainable talent pathway, leading to further NGB-approved Awards and competitions. His offering closely meets the aims of the 5-hour offer and SportUnlimited initiatives and I would not hesitate to recommend him to any School Sports Partnership thinking about introducing fencing in their family of schools.
